During a financial results presentation, Zelnick discussed an extended collaboration with Nintendo, without announcing specific titles. However, the upcoming release of Civilization 7 on the current Switch suggests continuity on the next generation. “We support platforms when it aligns with our projects,” he stated, highlighting the historic ties between the two companies.
Take-Two has already adapted several franchises on Switch, such as Borderlands or NBA 2K, but never GTA 5. This time, the context is changing: Nintendo now targets a broader audience, according to Zelnick. “Nintendo consoles were perceived for a young audience, but the current Switch, and potentially the Switch 2, can appeal to everyone.” This time, it seems unlikely that Take-Two and Rockstar would miss the opportunity to release their flagship game on a console that will likely once again become one of the best-selling in the world.
A STRATEGY ADAPTED TO A BROADER AUDIENCE
While no game is officially confirmed, this openness suggests that GTA 6 could, in theory, be considered. The remaining question is about technical performance: will the Switch 2 be powerful enough for Rockstar’s next opus, expected in the fall of 2025? Remember that the PS5 and Xbox Series X might already be limited to just 30 FPS. Nevertheless, Take-Two seems to be exploring all avenues, including a possible adaptation of GTA Online, already popular on other platforms.
Meanwhile, Nintendo unveiled a teaser of the Switch 2 in March, without a release date. More details will be revealed during a Nintendo Direct in April. Take-Two, like other publishers, is adjusting its strategy according to these hardware and demographic evolutions.
Finally, Zelnick took this opportunity to address another topic: the impact of AI on employment. Contrary to common fears, he believes that this technology could create additional jobs by optimizing rather than replacing human skills.
A pivotal period for Take-Two, which is betting on diversification, both in platforms and audiences, to strengthen its influence. Will the Switch 2 become a new growth driver? We will find out in the coming months.
