How to enter GTA cheat codes
Phone cheats
GTA 5 and GTA 4: open the in-game cell phone, dial the number and press call. In GTA 4 the same numbers work on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
PC letter codes
GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas: type the code on your keyboard during normal gameplay. There is no input box and you must not pause; a message confirms it worked.
Controller combos
PlayStation and Xbox versions: enter the button sequence while playing, not paused and not in a cutscene. Stand still in a safe spot, because the buttons keep their normal actions.
Before you use a cheat
- Save first. Many cheats cannot be switched off, and some can break missions or leave permanent changes in the game.
- Cheats can block progress tracking: in GTA 5 they disable Trophies and Achievements for the session, and in older games they can affect statistics or unlocks.
- They are for single-player only. Cheats do not work in GTA Online or in multiplayer modes.
- In GTA 5, cheats are not saved: they turn off when you reload or restart, so enter them again.

Frequently asked questions
Do GTA cheat codes work in GTA Online?
No. Cheat codes only work in the single-player (Story Mode) part of GTA 5. They are disabled in GTA Online, and they do not work in GTA 4 multiplayer either.
How do I enter a GTA cheat code?
It depends on the game. In GTA 5 and GTA 4 you dial a phone number on the in-game cell phone. In GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas you type letter codes on PC, or enter a button combination on PlayStation and Xbox, while playing. In GTA 1 and GTA 2 you type the code as your player name on the name-entry screen.
Do cheats disable trophies and achievements?
In GTA 5, using a cheat disables Trophies and Achievements for the current session. In GTA 4 and San Andreas, some cheats can permanently block specific Trophies, Achievements or statistics in your save, so keep a clean backup save before you experiment.
