How to download GTA 6 (the official way)
GTA 6 is not a file you download from a website. On launch day it is sold digitally on the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store, or as a boxed copy whose code you redeem on your PlayStation or Xbox account. If you pre-ordered a digital version, you can start the GTA 6 download on November 12, 2026, a week before launch, so the game is ready when it unlocks. The boxed edition goes on sale the same day for the same reason.
Before the pre-load, free up storage, update your console and turn on automatic downloads. Our GTA 6 pre-load and physical edition checklist walks through every step, and the GTA 6 release date guide has the prices, editions and dates in one place.
Beware of fake downloads. Rockstar’s confirmed platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Any website offering a “free GTA 6 download”, an installer or a file for PC or phone is not official, and the only way to get the game is through the console stores or a boxed copy.

Looking for older GTA games?
We do not host game files: Grand Theft Auto is protected by copyright, and a download from an unofficial site can carry malware. For the classic games we offer what we can legally provide instead: the cheat sheets above, a full guide for every edition and an A to Z lexicon of characters, vehicles, gangs and places.
