Frequently asked questions
How do you enter cheats in GTA 1?
Cheats are entered as your player name on the new-game / character screen. On PC, press Delete to clear the field and type the cheat word; on PlayStation, enter the code as your name. A revving engine sound confirms it.
What is the ITSGALLUS code?
ITSGALLUS is the famous PC code that unlocks all levels and cities at once. NINEINAROW does the same thing.
Are GTA 1 cheats the same on PC and PlayStation?
No — the versions use mostly different code words. For example, no police is IAMTHELAW on PC but CHUFF on PS1. Use the code that matches your platform.
Is the original Grand Theft Auto free to download now?
Yes — Rockstar released the original GTA (and GTA 2) as free classics; they are widely preserved and run on modern Windows with community patches.
Do cheats disable scoring in GTA 1?
There is no documented flag that blocks your score for using cheats, but point-boosting codes obviously inflate it, so a cheat-assisted total is not comparable to a legitimate run.
