A World Redrawn by Leaks
The latest GTA 6 map update is here, and it’s one of the most significant leaps forward we’ve seen. Thanks to recent leaks, the community-driven mapping project has undergone a radical transformation, moving from educated speculation to a much clearer vision of Leonida. This isn’t just a minor revision; it’s a complete overhaul that changes our understanding of the game’s world. Many long-held assumptions about the map’s layout have been turned on their head, particularly concerning the vast northern territories.
Previously, connecting the dots between known locations like Vice City and Port Gellhorn was a matter of guesswork. The community did an incredible job with the information available, but large sections were essentially blank canvases filled with plausible theories. Now, with more concrete data, the map’s true shape is emerging, and it’s both surprising and exciting.
The North Transformed
The most dramatic changes in this new version are found in the north. The map doesn’t stretch as far as once believed; instead, it tapers off much earlier. This has allowed for a far more detailed and confident rendering of areas like Mt. Kalaga National Park and the surrounding Leonida County. The wild, untamed nature of this region is beginning to take shape, promising a diverse landscape for players to explore, a stark contrast to the urban sprawl of Vice City.
This northern expanse isn’t empty, either. The leaks have pointed to several new settlements that have yet to be identified, adding to the mystery and the scale of the world. Perhaps most intriguingly, a new airstrip has been discovered right on the northern edge, suggesting that even the most remote areas of Leonida will be accessible and full of activity.
Port Gellhorn’s Hidden Surprises
Port Gellhorn, a location known from early leaks, has also revealed some incredible secrets. We now know that the port and its refinery are situated on an island, a detail that completely changes the geography of the area. Even more surprising is the discovery of a large airfield hidden within the peninsula. This isn’t just a small dirt runway; it’s a substantial facility capable of handling larger aircraft.
However, the crown jewel of Port Gellhorn is undoubtedly its International Raceway. Using newly available elevation data, the mapping community has meticulously reconstructed the track’s layout. It appears to be a complex and challenging course, with its eastern section drawing heavy inspiration from Germany’s legendary Nürburgring. This suggests Rockstar is crafting a true paradise for racing enthusiasts, integrating a world-class circuit directly into the open world.
Exploring the Riches of Kelly County
The update also brings new clarity to Kelly County. What was once thought to be a separate county, Ambrosia, is now confirmed to be a part of it. This area is far more developed than anyone anticipated. It hosts the Thrillbilly Mud Club, a location glimpsed in the first official trailer, along with a motocross track and a dirt oval. This concentration of off-road and racing venues positions Kelly County as a hub for high-octane entertainment.
Adding to its importance, the region also features another airstrip and a significant residential section, making it a lively and multifaceted part of the Leonida landscape.
How Big Is the GTA 6 Map Really?
This latest GTA 6 map update helps put the sheer size of the game into perspective. Leaked information from a Rockstar developer suggested the map would be roughly twice the size of GTA 5’s, with Vice City itself being double the size of Los Santos. Looking at the new community map, these seemingly ambitious figures start to look very plausible.
Even with all these new details, the currently mapped landmass is estimated to be under the rumored 100 square kilometers. This strongly implies that there are still significant parts of the world we haven’t seen, with speculation pointing towards undiscovered islands or land to the southeast. What we’re seeing, as massive as it is, may only be a piece of the final puzzle. This isn’t the final GTA 6 map, but an evolving project that gets more exciting with every update, revealing a world of unprecedented scale and detail.
