GTA 5 Grass Roots is a series of three Strangers and Freaks side missions from Barry, a marijuana legalization advocate. Each protagonist gets a different GTA 5 Grass Roots mission, and only Franklin’s counts toward 100% completion.
Key facts
- Given by: Barry, who has a table in Legion Square
- Michael’s version needs Complications and Pulling Favors
- Trevor’s and Franklin’s versions need Three’s Company
- Michael and Trevor hallucinate after a joint; Franklin does not
- Only Franklin’s segment contributes to 100% completion
Michael: aliens in Legion Square
Talk to Barry at his table. Michael refuses at first but takes a few drags, then sees a purple haze and aliens closing in. He gets a minigun with unlimited ammo and must defeat all the aliens. If one catches him in the green energy field, wiggle the left stick to break free, otherwise he is abducted and dies. The mission also fails if you leave the area or are wasted.
Optional objectives are Unmarked, for finishing with minimal health and armour damage, and Kill Chain, for killing 7 aliens in 00:10.
Trevor: clowns and vans
Trevor says legalization would hurt his own business, then smokes anyway. He hallucinates a crowd of clowns and gets an Assault Shotgun with an extended clip and unlimited ammo. Clown vans arrive and keep generating clowns until you destroy them. Optional objectives are Pre-Emptive Strike, killing 4 clown vans before they generate clowns, and Greatest Dancer, killing 6 clowns while they dance.
Five vans spawn in order: one in the south of Legion Square, two in the centre and two in the north. Reload when only one clown is left so you can react faster. Clowns dance when they spawn and when they reload, so drag out each wave to catch them dancing. The mission fails if Trevor leaves the area or is wasted.
Franklin: the supply run and the smoke-in
Barry is in front of a Ranch outlet on Sinner Street in Textile City. Franklin smokes without hallucinating, and may get a wanted level if he lingers near Barry. Barry then texts the locations of two vehicles with supplies: a Duneloader in Murrieta Heights watched by the cops, and a broken-down Emperor in a La Puerta junkyard that must be towed.
Deliver both to Barry’s apartment in Vespucci. Barry then asks Franklin to join the smoke-in at City Hall on Occupation Avenue. When Franklin arrives, nobody is there, and Barry says he will be right along. Franklin leaves in frustration.
