The GTA Online bounty missions come in two forms: the Bounty Target series from Maude Eccles, added with the After Hours update, and the Bail Office Bounty – Prison Bus job from the Bottom Dollar Bounties update. Maude’s series sends you after five fugitives. The Prison Bus job pays $52,500-$60,000 when you deliver the target alive.

How the Bounty Target missions work
Maude Eccles starts the series with an unsolicited text offering bounty hunting work. She then emails a mugshot of the first target, and a GPS area marks roughly where that person was last seen. Search inside the marked zone. When you get close, a metallic wind chime sound plays, much like in a Treasure Hunt.
You can leave the zone and come back as long as you have not yet engaged the target. If you quit GTA Online or close the game mid-bounty, you get a fresh target the next time you start Free Mode, but your overall progress is kept.
Bounty Target locations and message sequence
Each of the five bounties can appear in one of several places, and the target does not always stand in the same spot inside the area. Later updates added more areas, including La Fuente Blanca and the Kortz Center. A nearby gang attack mission can also trigger while you search.
Maude’s emails and texts are the same for all five targets, whatever character was picked. After the fifth capture she thanks you, notes that her list is finished and sends coordinates for a stash spot the last jumper used.
Capturing a bounty alive or dead
- Melee the target until they surrender, or shoot them with a low-damage weapon such as a Pistol without aiming for the head.
- Some targets fight back with bare hands or a weapon like a Baseball Bat, Bottle or Knife.
- A Nightstick is safe for subduing a target, while a Baseball Bat kills them.
- Once a target surrenders, they follow you into a vehicle. Take them to Maude’s trailer, just east of Beam Me Up in the Grand Senora Desert.
- If you die while transporting a bounty, progress rolls back to the previous one.
Bail Office Bounty – Prison Bus walkthrough
This is the Bail Office version of GTA Online bounty missions. Jenette tells you a target escaped during a transfer to a court hearing by hijacking the prison bus, and sends a picture for identification.
- Go to the crash site of the prison bus.
- Investigate the bloody clothes the target left behind.
- Follow the blood trail until it ends, then search the yellow area nearby.
- Fight off the gang around the target, then disarm and secure them.
- Take them to the Bail Office if alive, or to LS County Coroners if dead.
The mission fails if the Burrito (Bail Enforcement) is destroyed with the target inside. It starts at one of three places:
