GTA 5 Hunting Challenges are the optional goals Trevor can complete while hunting in the Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness. Cletus Ewing sends them by text, and finishing them makes the gold medal easier to reach. Hunting is only available to Trevor Philips, between 5:00 and 19:00.

- Start: the elk-head icon on the northwest side of the map, then the trailer
- Equipment: animal call and unlimited sniper ammo during the hunt; a Blazer waits outside
- Animals: elk (deer), coyote, boars, cougars and birds
- Scoring: heart, neck and headshots earn extra points and money
- Payment: Cletus sends cash based on the animal and how it was killed
How a hunt works
The GTA 5 Hunting Challenges are tracked per hunt, so repeat sessions to clear every rank. Enter the trailer at the icon and Trevor automatically puts on the hunting outfit. The screen shows score, medal, money, wind direction and wind speed in mph. Every kill has to be photographed and texted to Cletus with Trevor’s phone. He warns you when time is nearly up and sends a final text when the day’s hunt ends.
Master Hunter challenges
- Kill an elk with a heart shot.
- Kill 2 elk in a row without a call.
- Kill 3 elk in a row undetected.
- Kill 4 elk within four minutes.
- Kill 2 elk with a single shot.
Weapon Master challenges
- Kill a coyote with a shotgun.
- Run a boar over.
- Kill a mountain lion with a grenade.
- Kill an elk without looking through the scope.
- Kill any bird with the sniper rifle.
Nature Photographer challenges
- Text Cletus a photo of a doe.
- Text a photo of 2 dead elk.
- Text a photo of a dead coyote and a dead boar.
- Text a photo of an elk corpse and a charging cougar.
- Text a photo of an elk, a cougar, a boar and a coyote corpse.
For the last Nature Photographer rank, the animals do not have to share one photo. Take a picture of one, then photograph another corpse in quick succession and it still counts.
The GTA Online photography challenge
A separate daily collectible in the enhanced GTA Online has you photograph three animals per day for the LS Tourist Board, out of 15 different animals. It does not use Trevor’s hunting trailer; details are in the Wildlife Photography Challenge guide.
