GTA 6 is single-player at launch
The clearest answer comes from the stores themselves. The PlayStation Store listing states that the game is a single-player experience, lists 1 player, and shows offline play as enabled. The Xbox Store gives the same description, with “Single player” as its only player mode. PlayStation’s own offer terms page repeats it.
Take-Two said the same thing out loud. At its annual shareholder meeting on September 17, Zelnick described GTA 6 as a single-player experience on two major platforms, as reported by Inven Global. He also said the company anticipates no recurrent consumer spending with this launch. In Take-Two’s language, that means in-game currency, microtransactions and similar add-on spending. Both store pages still carry a generic in-game purchases notice, so do not read too much into that label either way.
In other words, the GTA 6 online multiplayer question has a simple answer for November 19: there is none.
What happens to GTA Online when GTA 6 launches?
GTA Online is not being switched off. Take-Two has said this several times:
- On its February earnings call, Zelnick said he had every reason to believe the company would continue to support GTA Online, as reported by RockstarINTEL.
- At the September meeting, he called GTA V’s online mode a robust business for the company.
- GTA Online’s summer update, the Kortz Center Heist, launched on July 14, 2026 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, according to Take-Two’s quarterly report.
- The current Halloween event runs until November 4.

When will GTA 6 online multiplayer come out?
Nobody official has said. What exists are predictions, and they should be read as such:
- Twitch’s CEO, Dan Clancy, told Bloomberg in September that he expects an even bigger boost for Twitch next year, when Rockstar launches multiplayer. That is his expectation, not a Rockstar announcement.
- Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said in August not to expect a multiplayer reveal any time soon.
- Take-Two has focused every recent statement on the single-player launch and has not given any online date.
Claims about player counts, such as a 32-player mode, come from unverified sources. Names like “GTA Online 2” are fan speculation.
What is still unconfirmed
- Whether a GTA 6 online mode exists at all, and what it would be called.
- Whether it would be a free update or a separate product.
- Player counts, crossplay or cross-progression. Neither GTA Online nor Red Dead Online has offered crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox.
- Whether GTA Online characters or money will carry over.
- How long GTA V’s online servers will keep running.
