Will GTA 6 be on Game Pass? Not at launch, based on everything published so far. Grand Theft Auto VI sells at full price on the Xbox Store, Microsoft has not announced it for Game Pass, and Sony has said nothing about PlayStation Plus. Add an October streaming story that Xbox quickly walked back, and it is easy to see why people are confused. Here is what is actually confirmed about GTA 6 Game Pass, PS Plus and cloud play.
Key facts
- The Xbox Store and Xbox.com pages for GTA 6 do not mention Game Pass.
- GTA 6 is sold at full price: $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition.
- Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said putting new premium games into subscriptions on day one makes no sense for the company.
- Xbox said in October that GTA 6 will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.
- Nothing has been announced about PS Plus or Xbox Cloud Gaming support.
Is GTA 6 on Xbox Game Pass?
No GTA 6 Game Pass release has been announced. We checked the Xbox Store listing and the official Xbox.com game page on October 24: neither one mentions Game Pass, and both sell the game at full price.
That fits Take-Two’s long-standing position. In a 2024 interview with GamesIndustry.biz, reported by PCGamesN, Zelnick said that putting new premium titles into a subscription on day one does not make sense for the company. He has not changed that position publicly since GTA 6 was dated.
Older Rockstar games have joined subscriptions years after launch, but that is not the same thing. If you want to play GTA 6 on November 19, you will need to buy it.
Is GTA 6 on PS Plus?
No. Sony’s GTA 6 announcements cover the full-price game, the 7-day pre-load and the limited-edition controllers, and none of them mentions PlayStation Plus. The PlayStation Store lists the same prices as Xbox in the US.
You do get one subscription perk with a digital purchase: a free month of GTA+, Rockstar’s own membership for GTA Online. We explain how to claim it in our pre-order bonus guide later this week.
The Xbox streaming story, explained
On October 6, The Verge reported that Xbox had secured exclusive rights to stream GTA 6, which would have let people play it on PC at launch. The report quoted Xbox chief Asha Sharma describing it to staff as something no other platform holder was doing.
The next day, Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball said there had been some misreporting. In his words, GTA VI “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC”. He added that Xbox was looking forward to launching the game on Xbox on November 19. The Verge corrected its story, saying the arrangement appeared to be more complicated than first reported.
What Ball did not say matters too. He neither confirmed nor ruled out GTA 6 on Xbox Cloud Gaming for Xbox consoles. So the honest answer is that cloud support is unknown.
What this means for each player
| You play on | What is confirmed |
|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | Full-price game; no Game Pass announcement; no region lock on boxed codes |
| PS5 or PS5 Pro | Full-price game; no PS Plus announcement; boxed codes tied to your account’s region |
| PC | No version and no cloud streaming to PC at launch |
| Xbox One or PS4 | Not supported |
If you are buying a boxed copy, the region rules differ by platform. Our region lock guide explains why Xbox codes work anywhere and PS5 codes do not. PC players can read our PC release explainer.
Is it worth waiting for a GTA 6 Game Pass deal?
Probably not, if you want to play soon. There is no sign of a subscription release, and the publisher’s stated view points the other way. The bigger risk is waiting for something that never comes while everyone else plays.
If price is the issue, compare the Standard and Ultimate Editions first. Our Ultimate Edition guide breaks down the difference. For a sense of how many people have already paid full price, see our look at pre-order estimates.
What could still change
- Microsoft could announce Xbox Cloud Gaming support for Xbox consoles closer to launch.
- Rockstar could add GTA 6 to a subscription years from now, as it has done with older games.
- Take-Two’s November 9 earnings call is the next scheduled moment for new details.
Until any of that happens, treat GTA 6 Game Pass claims as rumors. For every confirmed date, see our GTA 6 release date page.
